Visiting Konstanz, Germany

Visiting Konstanz, Germany was high on our priority list, and a few days ago we headed there on a day trip.

Konstanz is a beautiful town located along the shores of Lake Constance (or Bodensee in German), and almost directly on the German-Swiss border. The Old Town is one of the main attractions in Konstanz, with its famous cathedral (originally dating from the 7th century), traditional houses, and plenty of shopping. Konstanz is a fascinating city, and reminded me a lot of Geneva, Switzerland.

Hiking in the Black Forest of Germany

Hiking in the Black Forest was something on our “must do” list when we first decided to move to Germany. I love hiking, and was a little disappointed that I would be missing out on all of the great hikes near Vancouver BC.

So we made it a priority to check out the city of Freiburg – a University town located in the Black Forest. And although the 7.5km hike wasn’t that challenging, it was beautiful – and a nice change of pace from exploring cities for so long.

A day trip to Chamonix

A day trip to Chamonix was something I had always been fascinated with, ever since I heard hiking and climbing friends talk about the beautiful scenery, and of course – Mont Blanc.

Well, earlier this year we found ourselves in Geneva, Switzerland for a few days to attend the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. Once we realized how close Geneva was to Chamonix, we decided to head into the Alps for a day trip to Chamonix, and check out the quaint little mountain town for ourselves.
